RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X7980 E.2/HP.27.8.32. Test Bed Engine - Phantom II With reference to memo Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}12/AD.26.8.32, we have been further into the question of lubricating the little end, and upon digging up all our past history on the subject we find that without pressure lubrication to the small end we run into knocks and taps at this point which I fear would undoubtedly caus us trouble on production even if we get away with it on one or two engines experimentally. We must, therefore, abandon the idea of splash lubrication for chassis engines, and in the meantime we are considering a design of rod having a central drilled oil hole up the stem in the place of the pipe.
