indicated by the smoothness of the engine in flight.

No cutting out of the engine when side slipping which occurs with the normal intakes. Improvement in climb. Tendency to automatically correct for mixture strength. The latter will be fully tried out during flight tests.

It is my opinion that a greater improve-ment can be made by building the intake as part of the cowling. At the moment the new air intakes are pushed over the existing stubs and do not present a smooth surface.

Whilst at Martlesham I had a long discuss-ion with Mr. Stevens the T.C.O., on technical problems, including the fall off in engine power with height, both in connection with supercharged and naturally aspirated engines.
