1021 To Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}15/ML.15.2.40. Further information required from Park Wards. Park Wards have given us the cost of the B2 body, the cost of the B5 body and the saving effected by the use of the tools from Motor Body Panels. They still have not supplied the following information asked for by Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}: "What reduction in the price could be brought about by accepting a material specification similar to that of the Rover or Jaguar. Separately what additional reduction could be achieved by using up-to-date painting and drying equipment, power driven hand tools and modern arc or spot welding tackle. Could any reductions be achieved by ignoring the limitations with regard to layout of the present factory. Having obtained the above information, we want to know what further reduction could be achieved in material, due to buying in quantities, and in labour due to reduction in man hours if the Park Ward construction were adhered to and tools could be put in hand the cost of which could be spread over 6,000 bodies to flow from the shops on conveyors at the rate of say, 60 per week. What advantage from the improved plant and larger quantities would accrue to coupe bodies at the rate of say, 5 per week and the other custom built bodies in the pre-war quantities produced by the Company."
