6092. To By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}5/JH.5.2.38. HIGH OUTPUT REGULATOR. Further to our report ref. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}10/JH.7.1.38. in which we stated that a higher output regulator was necessary, steps were taken to obtain regulators of the higher characteristic. Considerable difficulty was however experienced in getting the makers to supply units to the new specification, but we think these should be available in the near future. The new specification decided upon is as follows :- In the hot condition the output at 13.5 volts on the regulator terminals shall lie between 18.0 and 20.5 amps. We must point out however, that where a regulator of this type is fitted on a Phantom Car, a dynamo of the type reported on in Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}5/MH.{M. Huckerby}30.9.37. should also be fitted for the reasons given in the two reports. It is realised that the "cutting in" speed of this new dynamo is later than that of the standard, but where this proves serious a compromise can be made by rewinding the armature with three turns per coil instead of two.
