To Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} from EFC. c. Ry. X8793 EFC3/T20.10.26. LUCAS MAGNETOS. Our experimental observations have shewn that the proportion of volts to amperes of the primary winding of this magneto is rather greater than in most magnetos, i.e. the primary winding is rather finer. We suggest for Dr. Turner's consideration that a smaller proportion of volts to amperes might enhance the life of the platinum points, because the induced voltage at the time of break might not then rise at such a rapid rate. At the same time, it would still further improve the slow running if the space factor of copper to insulation could (with this lower voltage) could be improved. One of the difficukties in this direction would be the necessity of providing a condenser of larger capacity. Dr. Turner's comments on these suggestions would be of interest. EFC. | ||
