To: Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} From G.W.H. Hôtel de France, Châteauroux, Indre. Re: 23-EX and 24-EX Springing. There is as much difference, as the saying goes, between chalk and cheese, in the springing of these two cars and the steadiness of the fronts It has been forcibly brought to our notice after making the alterations to the radiator mounting on 24-EX. Taking the two cars over the same route, whilst the radiator on 24-EX is now perfectly steady, the wings and head lamps are joggling considerably. In fact, the movement is extremely bad and is not a production job. Taking 23-EX at exactly the same speed and on the same road, the radiator is 99% steady, as also are the wings and head lamps, etc. There is an entire difference between the steadiness and the riding of the front between the two cars, as, against this the general comfort both in the front and rear seats are 50% better in 24-EX than in 23-EX. 24-EX gives you the soft silky riding. At the same time, the car is holding the road quite O.K. On the other hand, 23-EX is 50% harsher riding both in the front and in the rear, and, until we brought the poundage of the shock-dampers up, did not hold the road. The back would, at the slightest provocation, jazz straight across when running on a poor surfaced road. One never knew when to expect this. It does not do this with the shock-damper loads increased.
