400d + 400 To Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}2/JH.19.9.39. 9.B.V. Run of about 420 miles. This was once a nice car but has been left in very poor condition. War is no reason for most of the troubles experienced. These were :- (1) Radiator cap only resting in position. This was discovered by fountains of water on the first hard brake application. (2) Throttle sticking. (3) Tyres not up to pressure. This applies to almost every car in the department. (4) Horn button very erratic on loud side. (5) Pressure on damper gauge on r.h. corners only, gear-box oil level very low - corrected. (6) Ran out of water at 300 miles. Pinking draws one's attention to this. (7) Engine oil level too low - loss of pressure on corners and when braking - added some. Apart from the above - (a) The sunshine roof rattles and thumps. (b) The brakes are far from good. (c) The "foreign" rear dampers are useless and dangerous when braking. They should be replaced by the R.R. dampers which are loose in the luggage compartment. (d) ABR.{A. B. Roberts} should find out why the water temperature runs at 65 - 70 and where the water is being lost. (e) The clutch has nothing to spare as regards slipping at low speeds.
