1158. To Roy{Sir Henry Royce}/Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Ed.{J. L. Edwards}11/JH.31.5.39. re Smith Heater EXY.11046. We have noted Messrs. Smiths letter of the 24th. instant with interest and would like to pass the following comments. (1) No defroster or demister arrangements of any kind are fitted. (2) Motor has got to be provided separately. (3) The price is only 1/- cheaper than the R.R. Marston heater without defroster or motor. (4) Smiths propose selling at this price only if quantity production is available, when we should be fitting a heater to our cars which is amongst the cheapest on the public market. (5) No coupling is included with the Smith heater but this is included on the R.R. Marston. Considering the above points, and in view of the fact that the R.R. heater is available either with or without defroster, we do not consider that the Smith job would be superior.
