Mr. Claude Johnson,
Managing Director,
Rolls-Royce Ltd.,
London, England.

Attention : Messrs. Royce and Elliott.

Dear Sir:-

X.3893. Re: Electrical Installation on X.1402.
X.3771. Rolls-Royce Chassis. X.1815.
...... ------------------------- X.4218.

In reply to Mr. Royce's letter R8/G10.9.20, in which he doubts the reliability of the fuse on the cut-out circuit of the Smith dynamo, in my reply to this letter dated Sept. 28th, I stated that a magnetic circuit breaker was used by certain manufacturers of electrical fittings.

I have now received a sample from the Delco people, a copy of whose covering letter I enclose herewith. I think that this will make the use of the circuit breaker clear to Mr. Royce.

The circuit breaker is double, one half consisting of a definite lockout device, and the other of a maximum current regulator on the principle of an ordinary vibrating voltage regulator.

The device follows the general lines of construction used on the Liberty aero engine cutout made by the same Company, of which a sample was sent to Mr. Royce sometime ago.

X.1109. I think Mr. Royce will be interested also in the use of Bakelized canvas instead of Mica for insulation. This is generally regarded here as being much superior to Mica because of its freedom from minute cracks and faults.

Mr. Royce may also be interested in the construction of the terminals, which seem to be good.

In accordance with your instructions, we are writing, attention of Mr. Elliott, asking him to bring the circuit breaker to Mr. Royce's attention when it arrives.

Very truly yours,

ROLLS ROYCE OF AMERICA, Inc.
