C15/C28139 23rd January 1939 Messrs. The Avon India Rubber Co.Ltd., Mabledon Place, St.Pancras, W.C.1. (For the attention of Mr. R.H.Comley) Dear Sirs, With further reference to your letter of the 3rd inst. wherein you asked if we would agree to your use of the word "Phantom", which we have registered, we have given this matter very careful consideration, and should actually have little or no objection in your case. Our trouble, however, is that it might be very difficult for us, if we were to give such an agreement, owing to the precedent it would establish. It might be that cases would arise when we should look upon it as distinctly against our interests to agree to the use of the name. In the circumstances, therefore, we must reluctantly ask you not to adopt this name for your new tyre. We are, dear Sirs, Yours faithfully, For ROLLS-ROYCE LTD., General Manager. | ||
