Front brakes, pivot, and suspension for the 'Myth' project.

FRONT BRAKES & PIVOT - MYTH FRONT SUSPENSION ------------------------------------------ PL.378 attached shows the front brakes and pivot for the Myth front suspension. The brakes are Lockheed 2-leading shoe type and are similar to those on the rear, except that no bisector is required as there is no handbrake connection and the wheel cylinders are 1" dia. instead of the 7/8" dia. cylinders fitted at the rear. The front stub has New Departure type angular contact bearings, actually extracted from a Ransome & Marles list. The stress at the root of the stub is the same as on the Silver Phantom. Of the two types of brake drum shown, the one to be detailed is the one combined with the hub. This is slightly the lighter of the two finally, as it enables the wheel weight to be reduced. The method of fitting and securing the wheel studs to the drum is that now used on the Vauxhall 10. The steering pivot has plain bearings but a Timken roller thrust. The plain bearings are to be of Vandervell type, as used on engine camshafts. The lubrication of these bearings will be shown on a later scheme, as also will the cross steering lever. These may imply slight alterations or additions to the yoke piece pivot pinforging. Details of the carrier plate and water and dust excluders are required as soon as possible, for sending to Lockheeds as they are going to make up a set for trial.
