ENGLISH RACING AUTOMOBILES LTD BOURNE LINCS DIRECTORS H.W.COOK RAYMOND MAYS PETER BERTHON TELEPHONE BOURNE 121 OUR REF PB/EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} DATE 8th August 1937. Messrs. Rolls Royce, Ltd., Derby. For the attention of Mr. W.A.Robotham. Dear Sirs, Further to your talk of yesterday with Mr. Raymond Mays and our subsequent 'phone conversation we enclose herewith prints off Drawing No: E/10016A, Big end bearing shells and E/10046, Centre main bearing shells. These prints give the general dimension of the requirements and although we have indicated on the drawing, in the case of the Big End Shell, that they are to be diamond bored and ground on the outside, we suggest leaving this matter entirely to you, as we have no experience of the manufacture of Shells in aluminium tin. We understand that with this material clearances are smaller in the case of white metal. Raymond Mays has told us of the oil feed requirements and this is being catered for. We should like, if possible, complete sets, i.e. 12 pairs of Bearings and 2 pairs of centre main bearing shells, and will be extremely grateful if you can manage to do this work right away for us. We have a new type of engine practically ready to go on test and we should very much like to incorporate these shells in this engine. We very much appreciate your interest and very kind co-operation in this matter and hope that in the near future you will be able to pay us a visit and see what we are doing. Yours truly, p.p.
