not sufficient heat with the lower grade fuels. We are getting a temporary throttle made up in which we have cut off the water jacket and instead are brazing on to it an exhaust jacket made of sheet copper. This encases the throttle and extends as far as possible towards the induction pipe. If one looks at a 40/50 engine it appears as though a neat and practicable job could be made of the exhaust pipes leading to this throttle. At the present time we have a large diameter hot-air pipe passing through the cylinder. We could dispense with that and instead bring the exhaust to the carburetter. We should be able to do away with the four small water pipes leading to and from the carburetter so that on the whole, I believe, it would make a neater job. We ought to have this temporary arrangement running in three or four days. If the hot spot throttle does not work out, the next arrangement we would recommend is to have the little deflector in either the hot spot induction pipe or the one with the 1" pipe through.
We feel that we are very near a solution for overcoming complaints received from U.S.A. as regards the car running under cold conditions with inferior petrol.
