Dear Robotham,

Many thanks for your letter of the 20th instant, enclosing petrol ration book. Our Mr. Watkins, who deals with all our traffic matters, tells me that he has sent the Registration Book direct to your brother-in-law.

Sorry you are finding things out on my old car. The cracked front cross-member sounds rather alarming. I did not know such things ever happened in such well-regulated society as Rolls-Royce!

I observe the point about the broken lubrication pipes, and will see that the present car is carefully watched.

I take it you will look after all these things for your brother-in-law and get the necessary repairs carried out.

One alarming thing about my B.V. is the petrol consumption. I happened to do a fair mileage this week-end, and was alarmed to observe something under 10 miles to the gallon. I am having this re-checked, however, before giving you any final figures, and wonder what should be the best one could get out of it.

Further, there does not appear to be the great advantage of the reserve two gallons which was a feature of all your other cars.
