X4704 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} De.2/HP.6.4.34. c. wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Mr. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hay. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Vulture Bevel Pinion. -------------------- In view of the failure of the pinion by destroying the cone, we suggest that future pinions should have the increased cone shewn on N. Sch.3995 for the SpectreCodename for Phantom III. Taking the increased force of the screw into account this should give 58% increase of driving torque. One of the causes of the Vulture failure seems to be the stripping of the nut thread. The nut is in M.S. When fitting the spare pinion which already exists, no doubt this nut will be made in Nickel Steel. Instead of making new bevel pinions for Vulture it may be preferred to use the SpectreCodename for Phantom III Hypoids which only require a new centre casing to the axle. This would provide a useful test for the SpectreCodename for Phantom III axle. Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
