V5220 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rml/LG17.7.28. 20 HP. FAN. X5220 / X 766 At the present moment the 20 HP. is very much more likely to suffer from over-heating than the 40/50 HP. We went to a great deal of trouble to evolve an efficient Fan for the 40/50. The 20 HP. still retains its original fan. We should like to have a scale down replica of the 40/50 HP. fan on the next 10,000 miles test. Apparently the most efficient position for the fan is as on 12-EX i.e., as close up to the back of the matrix as possible. We think that now we have a spring loaded pulley on the 20 HP. fan, we ought to be able to push its outside dia. to the limit allowed by the space.
