X3409 Exptl. Dept. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}8/KW. 12th July, 1934. Messrs. British Belting & Asbestos Ltd., 59, Southwark Street, LONDON, S.E.1. For attention of Mr. Dalmaine. Dear Sirs, We have recently been carrying out tests on the coefficient of friction that we can obtain from various servo linings. Amongst them we have tried your Cotton A.{Mr Adams} material and find that this, in common with most other linings, has a coefficient of friction which falls with rise in temperature. We have built up a rig with which we can easily test the output of any lining, and therefore are in a position to try any new suggestions you have got. The characteristics which we require are, a coefficient of not less than .35, that the coefficient must not fall but may rise with temperature, and that the lining must not squeak. Perhaps you would let us know whether you have any suggestions, and if so will you send us some linings to try to our Piece No. G.56065, a print of which we attach. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
