Bm.4/ML. G.S.Selman,Esq., British Power Boat Co.Ltd., HYTHE. Southampton. 29.9.40. Dear Selman, I attended the Gun Trials on Friday last. We appear to have got away with at least 500 lbs. less than was originally specified. I thought the installation looked quite smart. The Navy have asked us to put some training stops on the mounting so that they cannot shoot bits off the boat. We have obtained some rough measurements but should like a drawing of the boat so that we can put the stops in with greater accuracy. You will remember that last time I was at Hythe, your Manager said that the Power Boat Company would like Rolls Royce to co-operate with them by building a gun on a power-driven mounting. I wrote a letter saying that we were prepared to do this but, for various reasons, I think it would now be a good thing if somebody from the Power Boat Company wrote officially and told us that they wanted a power-driven mounting. You will appreciate that, with the existing pressure of work, all development that is not urgently required is to go by the board. Hence the request. Yours sincerely, | ||
