S.G. FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} [S.G. is struck through] Copy to WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Copy to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} [BY is struck through] Copy to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ORIGINAL RECEIVED [in a circular stamp with a clock face and the date 23 1930] 25HP. R2/M20.9.30. YS770 We are at present working on the 'Japan' engine, making a new head to suit the present crankchamber and convert the present engine into the 'Japan' type. The reasons why we are doing this are:- (1) That the 'Japan' engine has proved to have better distribution both cold and hot. (2) Like P. 2. it is decidedly less liable to fire in the exhaust. (3) It permits of double carburetters. (4) It is also being arranged for double ignition which we understand the buyers consider so desirable. These features should make it distinctly better, both for performance at all speeds and reliability, than its competitors of the same capacity, and is distinctly better than American productions. As we are continuing to use cast iron in the head, a simple cylinder block, and the same crankchamber, we believe this will not give much trouble in changing, but will give a distinct chance of increased trade. I have also the impression that we cannot expect this chassis to do much in the Colonies, America, and on the Continent, unless we have a L.H. model. It will bring the 25HP. almost exactly into line with P.2. The 'China' engine is now over 10 yrs. old in type. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
