X.8780. PERFORMANCE OF DYNAMO BATTERY SYSTEM X.3374.
X.5780. Your PN{Mr Northey}20/GD19.12.30.

The switching proposition proposed in our EFC1/AD12.12.30 does not affect the cutting in point of the dynamo except insofar as this is enabled to give full output and therefore earlier cutting in when the head lamps are not "on".

The compound winding carrying the current of the head lamps would appear to have some possibilities technically and these possibilities will be investigated in due course. The wiring complication would, however, appear to be considerable.

We regret that you should have received the impression of mystery in these matters from the second paragraph on page 3 of our EFC2/AD9.12.30 and from other paragraphs. Though their complete explanation is considerably involved there is no sentence in our paragraph referred to the wording of which we should wish to change. It is the case that the output of such a generator does increase "merely as a result of being coupled to a number of cells across which the P.D. is capable of rising" even though the speed does not increase.

An attempt to explain the phenomenon was sometime back given in our EFC1/T2.12.25 but so far as we can trace a copy of this was not sent to you at the time. Fortunately we have several spare copies and one of these is being sent to you. One or two further copies are available for others who may desire them.

EFC.
