DETAILS OF TESTS.

Tests on Platinum Points.

No.1. Conditions - RR. previous standard. Large pip formed on lever point, after 7,600 miles; partially filed away to maintain regular sparking.

No.4. Conditions - RR. present standard (finer primary coil). Surface pitting. Large pip formed on lever point. No irregular sparking. (Duplicate samples in this instance).

No.7. Conditions - finer primary coil and double ballast resistance. Small pips formed on lever. Trimmed at 5,000 miles. Condition fair only. Wear on depth of point very small.

No.10P. Conditions - RR. previous standard,⁺ but with altered position of contact breaker points in relation to cam, as referred to in our EFC3/T18.9.26 (note shape of rubbing block, position of fixed contact point being altered to suit). This also automatically increases the mechanical pressure between the contact points. Lever pip partially filed away after 7,000 miles. Condition good. Surface clean and white.

No.18. Platinum points on Delco Remy make and break and distributor, but conditions otherwise RR. previous standard⁺ Conditions very much better than RR. results. Absence of characteristic pip and hollow.

+Note:- RR. previous standard conditions have been utilised in many of these tests as being worse conditions from the point of view of life of the points than the now standard conditions with finer primary coil or than those with the double ballast resistance.
