Delco-Remy Distributor.

We give below details of faults which require urgent attention on the Delco-Remy Distributor before it is fitted to B-19 unit.

(1) Distributor Tower wobbles badly, particularly noticeable at low speeds and apart from looking very bad will cause considerable wear in the aluminium base and possible misfires if the gap varies.

(2) Longer wires will be required, possibly 3 or 4 inches longer than existing.

(3) The distance from the bottom of serrated brass drive to base of distributor is .050" longer than the dimension of standard distributor. The causes the brass serrated drive piece to foul at bottom of the serrated drive shaft in crankcase. This dimension should preferably be altered but a .050" packing can be used as alternative.

(4) There is no method at present of setting the timing other than rotating the distributor tower until one contact breaker is about to break contact and then wiring the distributor to suit cylinders and ignoring the marking on top of distributor. There are two or three methods of doing this -

(a) By detachable cam as on standard distributor.

(b) By rotating the tower until it is in the correct position for fixing on No.1 cylinder with engine set on No.1 cylinder firing stroke. This of course would mean that the control pin on distributor would have to be variable so that a standard control rod would fit without having to make serious alterations.

(c) By deleting the master serration in the drive and rotating cam to its nearest position, and then use variable length control rod and use hand control quadrant as stops for advance and retard positions.
