COPY. 17/11/15 To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} for EH. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copies to J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Sy. Ha. COPY Re/B151115. November 15th 1915. Re Lean of Steering Pivots. When asking for the steering pivot lean to be increased to 2° I was not aware that I had increased it to practically the same amount as it used to be, as 1°30 mins. and 2° are very nearly alike. I therefore think we had better be contented with 1°30 mins. instead of the 30 mins. on 49 GB. You did not, however, reply to my other point in which the raising of the back of the car was equal to decreasing the rake of the pivots. How much this is accounted for I do not know, but it may be that the 1°30 mins. will be about right if the back end of the car usually runs a little higher. I quite agree to your getting an experiment run on the bumping rig, if possible, but I think it would be necessary to find out at what speed the steering wobbles occured. I quite think the right thing to do is to get central steering as near as possible. F.H.R. | ||
