19-EX. & D.W.S. JACKS.

In accordance with your request by telephone, we have sent off this afternoon per passenger train the D.W.S. Jack handle for 19-EX.

The first set of these modified jacks were fitted to 19-EX. shortly before it left here for London. The jack from the front axle and one of the rear ones were taken off for inspection and for D.O. use in modifying the brackets and could not be refitted before the car left. This explains why there is only one jack fitted and why no handle was on the car.

The one jack that is fitted is in the correct position and to all interests and purposes is equivalent to the final job. The bracket which fixes it to the axle is to be modified slightly to give increased clearances on maximum bump.
