A.{Mr Adams} Robotham Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd, DERBY Dear Mr. Robotham, I learn from Mr. Fisher that your Service Department intend to introduce a service modification to the 25 hp. Carburetters, which modification will take the form of feeding the idle system direct from the float chamber. I believe also that the same idea is to be tried out on the Phantom III Carburetter. The object of this letter is just to mention that we have tried many times to feed the idle system from the float chamber direct and so have other manufacturers, but the results have never been satisfactory. The idle system is feeding such a long way up the engine range that the variable adjustment of the slow running can have a very marked effect on petrol consumption. Therefore the whole metering system of the carburetter is upset if the idle jets are fed direct from the float chamber. P.T.O. | ||
