EXPERIMENTAL REPORT.

Expl. No.

REF HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RB{R. Bowen}/LGL.1.25.

REMARKS.

SPRINGS.
The average life of the last few springs fitted seems to be shorter than previously. These are Firths having 9 leaves. We have been compelled, on the last two occasions, to fit F.70881 springs (1150 lbs.) on the near side owing to shortage of the F.70880 (1100 lbs.) type.

FRAME.
There is no sign of failure in the front cross member of radiator suspension except as tabulated above.

RADIUS RODS.
No sign of failure other than slight wear as tabulated above.

RADIATOR.
No signs of leaks but shutter rattle worse. The top stay is now loosely fitted and has run for nearly 30 hrs. without trouble. This is longer than former ones.

Remarks re. cross member flanges and diagonal stays to sphere anchorage, have been made in previous reports.

5TH. CROSS MEMBER.

centre line of front cross member.
cracked here.
The position of this failure is identical with that on the former frame. We believe this to be due to over-stiffness of the frame at this point.

FRONT ENGINE SUSPENSION.
See sketch attached.
