and prepared a 50/50 mixture for the test. On this fuel, the amount of detonation was quite reasonable.

Sir James is now perfectly prepared to run the car a week'or so, and to let us know how he gets on. He hopes he will not have to trouble us again, but, as it seemed to me so obvious that the gear ratios are too high for his purpose, I promised him we would let him have some smaller tyres if he is not entirely satisfied. He would, of course, pay for these, and would not object to them on the score of appearance or ride. These tyres would represent a saving in weight of some 30 lbs, and as he would be quite prepared to throw away the Jackall jacks, we may now safely assume that we know enough about the complaint to satisfy him completely.

Sir James was very grateful for the trouble taken, and appreciated the visit.

The tyres we should send are 5.50 x 17, which would lower the gear ratio by 4%.

It is worth mentioning that his views of an overdrive coincide with those of several other Owners; namely, that it represents a pleasant high gear ratio for use on straight fast roads, but that it ought not to interfere with the lower ratios, which formerly were just right for this country.
