Dear Sirs,

Watford Aero Magnetos.

We desire to place on record a number of points in connection with the above magnetos, some of which we referred to in conversation with your Mr. Allen during his recent visit to our premises.

The first point concerns the small centre terminal screw for the hand starter magneto cable and in this connection I quote from my assistant's report W.E.5. as follows :-

"The small centre terminal screw for the hand starter magneto cable we should like to see located on the outside of the distributor block instead of inside as is the case on the SP.{Mr Spinney}12-5 magnetos. This screw invariably gets overlooked as regards tightening up, particularly on test bed work where the hand starter H.T. lead is not always used. We had a number of cases on B.T.H. magnetos of H.T. rotor fracture due to this small screw being left loose and fouling the rotor although a locking plate was specially provided. The B.T.H. Co. mainly at our instigation, now place the terminal on the outside of the distributor block."

The second point, duly referred to in conversation with your Mr. Allen, is concerned with the mis-firing tendency more particularly at moderate speeds in the fully advanced position both on the SP.{Mr Spinney}12-2 and SP.{Mr Spinney}12-5 types. It will be noted that this tendency was
