Failures. Recommendations or remarks. O.S. Spherical rubber failed after further 3 hours. Rubber had lasted 87 hours. O.S. Damper lost load on rebound stroke after a further 3 1/2 hours. Failure of replenishing valve spring. The oil was changed from Shockol to Castrol 'F'. O.S. Damper failed again after a further 1 1/2 hours due to the valve needle boring a hole through valve seat with consequent loss of load. The valve pin was only a temporary one. Correct one should cure this. N.S. Damper failed due to sticky valve after another 2 1/2 hours. This was the only valve trouble in the last 10 hours after changing to Castrol 'F'. O.S. Damper. No rebound load after 4 1/2 hours. Replenishing valve spring broken. On several occasions during the run when the dampers were dismantled for other purposes the valve sleeve was found to be seized or partly seized on the valve. We are going to try running the valve with greater clearances (although this means more leak) and we are also going to try copper plating the valve and sleeve as this was found very beneficial on hydraulic tappets.
