Referring to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.2/MA.29.5.33 and to the discussion between yourself, By/RD. and E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} this confirms that you will make further tests to determine whether we can operate with a 4½ ampere field fuse in conjunction with the vibrator control dynamo instead of our standard field fuse of 6½ amperes, and further if this is found to be the case whether the protection afforded by this smaller fuse is sufficient to prevent scorching of the shunt winding on the vibrator control unit and the dynamo field winding, should the regulator stick on contact.
You have pointed out that the conditions with vibrator control regulation are more favourable to being able to use a smaller field fuse. We have noticed that in the equipment supplied by Messrs. Lucas with these regulators that they have standardized a 4½ ampere cartridge fuse.
It was agreed that if the smaller fuse serves as a protection for the shunt windings of the dynamo and regulator unit it will act in the same way in protecting the shunt winding of the cutout.
