R.{Sir Henry Royce} (Held up). Dr. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} R.{Sir Henry Royce} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X5230 Rg.{Mr Rowledge}2/LW.1.4.38. X.2924 X.5640 X.5230 X.5350 X.2066 NINETEENTH REPORT OF DESIGN COMMITTEE. 10,000 Mile Test on 14-04. The position with regard to the exhaust pipes is that a modification to the design, consisting of the addition of brackets to prevent the trouble reported due to the expansion of the exhaust pipes, has been made and has been taken over to France by Mr. Forrest for test, together with a more favourable position for the sliding joint. The tests will be pushed as rapidly as possible so that the modifications can be made to Chassis now being built before delivery to customers. The tests so far show that the modifications are successful. Exhaust Valves. It is thought that the trouble with exhaust valves on this test was exceptional, and may have been due to the valves being set with insufficient clearance. The matter is being carefully watched and we do not think there is any need at the moment to be alarmed. Rear Axle. The trouble with the hypoid axle is being investigated. This type of axle has not been put through for standardisation and this point does not affect production. Other points. Other points reported were discussed and are having attention in the usual way, and HY.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} is watching to see that they have attention. Rg.{Mr Rowledge} | ||
