To R & E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from EFC. c. CJ. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} RG.{Mr Rowledge} c. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} EFC/T3.11.25. X.4284 - DELCO-REMY IGNITION. 12 VOLT. We have recently received Delco-Remy equipment comprising one contact breaker and distributor unit, and one ignition coil with nearly closed magnetic circuit, for inspection and comparison with our own equipment. Reports on the examination of this apparatus are contained in WB.{Mr Brazier/Mr Bell}51 and WB.{Mr Brazier/Mr Bell}57 attached. The special points of the distributor unit are :- (1) Soft cam. (2) Long thin bakelite rubbing block. (3) Allowance for re-adjusting contact points in accordance with wear of rubbing block. (4) Steel button and steel distributor collecting points flush in stabalite track upon which steel button presses during rotation. (5) Cylindrical shape of condenser of capacity similar to ours in magnitude. (6) Ballast resistance - considerable quantity of fine wire mounted on side of contact breaker casing. (7) Nearly closed magnetic circuit of coil. One of the contact breaker points is slightly domed for better bedding. We are doing this experimentally on a number of tungsten contact points which we have for test, as bedding is a difficult matter with the larger diameter flat points, as at present. Contd. | ||
