GOSHAWK, SIDE LEVERS, & SEATING ACCOMMODATION. X.3528 X.3730 We send herewith N.sch.1429, shewing the seating accommodation with side levers, for Goshawk. We have endeavoured not to spoil the shape of the car by having these side levers. The scuttles shewn in the case of the open car is that of 4-C-11 and the chauffeur driven car that of the standard Hooper Limousine as at present supplied with central levers. When the driver is normally sitting in the car with his leg dead straight, his leg passes the gear lever when in 3rd. or 2nd. gear, but he rocks his leg slightly inwards to change to 1st. or reverse. From our past experience with other cars we believe it possible to allow the hand brake stem to almost touch the gear lever in their nearest positions, because when one wishes to operate the gear lever the brake lever is seldom in a position near to it. We also believe that in actual practice the amount of room for the operation of these levers, and the clearance for the leg will be found much greater than this drawing would give one to believe. We shall shortly be sending you details of the hand brake and gear lever mechanism. We are forwarding a print and a copy of this memo. to Sales.
