TYRE NOISE. 44565

With reference to BJ16/E24.1.28. some time ago we went over to Messrs. Dunlop and saw the Chief of the Development Dept. there, and demonstrated to him the objectionable noise of their tyres. We got him to agree to produce special moulds to make a more silent tread and that they would supply us with sample tyres for test.

We have heard today that the moulds are now completed and that they hope to despatch these special tyres in a weeks' time.

There is no difficulty whatever in producing a quieter tyre. The Dunlop 3-ribbed pattern tread is perfectly silent but is positively dangerous on modern roads.

The tyre which Dunlops have produced will be a compromise between the 3-ribbed pattern and the present buttressed tread pattern. It will be less noisy and not so good for non-skidding qualities. We also expect the noise which will come from it will be easily distinguishable as a tyre noise.

As soon as ever we have received these tyres and criticised them with the Dunlop Co., we will send them to London for Sales to try.
