Dear Sirs,

In reply to your interesting letter of 21st April, we are very glad to note that ALCOIDS are giving such satisfactory performance as regards pinking, in your engine. We shall be very interested to have any report on the condition of the engine when dismantled.

With regard to the points you raise about the solubility of ALCOIDS, the slow rate is unavoidable, particularly in cold weather. The nature of the fuel again has its influence, alcohol blended fuels being less active than straight petrol. We have, however, had no actual difficulties with the principal alcohol-containing fuel used in this country, which contains 15 per cent of alcohol.

We appreciate, as you point out, that considerable variation in the concentration of the ALCOID material occurs in practice with variations in running and idle periods, but our tests, and we gather your experience, show this really does not matter within wide limits.

The secondary point of accumulation of undissolved ALCOIDS might give rise to some nice mathematical computations - with many variables - but in practice we have never found difficulties arising from this.

Yours faithfully
for ALEXANDER DUCKHAM & C°. Ltd.
