We have been doing some tests on the extra cylinder oiling scheme to N. Sch. 2742 using Amber A oil at shop temperature to approximate to Motorine C under cold starting conditions. Our results shew that the distribution is not very good, the central cylinders getting excess oil.. A larger distributing pipe will doubtless remedy the trouble. N. Sch. 2742. EXTRA CYLINDER LUBRICATION. Oil used :- Amber Gear "A". Temp 20°C. 25 lb/sq.in. High pressure Relief. No.4 Cyl:- 50 c.c's/2 min. 12 secs. = 22.7 c.c's/min, No.5 Cyl:- 50 c.c's/5 min 38 secs. = 8.9 c.c's/min, No.6 Cyl:- 50 c.c's/6 min 11 secs. = 8.1 c.c's/min. 3.5 lb/sq.in. Inter Press Relief. No.4 Cyl:- 25 c.c's/7 min. = 3.6 c.c's/min. No.5 Cyl.:- 6 c.c's/5 min. = 1.2 c.c's/min. No.6 Cyl.:- 5½ c.c's/5 min. = 1.1 c.c's/min. 1.75 lb/sq.in. Low Press Relief. No.4 Cyl.:- 8.5 c.c's/5 min. = 1.7 c.c's/min. No.5 Cyl.:- 3 c.c's/5 min? = 0.6 c.c's/min. No.6 Cyl.:- 2.5 c.c's/5 min. = 0.5 c.c's/min. We think that the supply will have to be drawn from the high pressure oil to ensure sufficient quantity getting on the cylinder bore during the few minutes running when we find seizure is liable to take place. | ||
