Dear Sirs,

25/30 HP. CHASSIS - STEERING ROLLERS.

Referring to the various points raised in your letter of the 2nd inst. (ref. Tech. Dept. FOH/AD.), and dealing with this in the order they are raised, our views are as follows :-

Pieces F.61284. We note that in the 67 pieces received by you, in a large number of the parts the end faces are not square with the bore. We agree with these being rectified and that any which have not a sufficient quantity of material to be rectified should be scrapped.

We note from a later paragraph that you require more than .001 to .002 on the abutment face in order that you may institute a lapping operation on both faces. We therefore propose to add .002" to both faces in this connection.

Material for Follower Roller.

In this connection we passed on to you the heat treatment particulars which had been given to us by the Adamant Co., our reason being that when discussing the points you are now raising with the Adamant Co. they were emphatic that the temperatures in question had been arrived at by experiment in each case and were necessary.

Since receiving your letter we have gone further into the matter with our Experimental Department who assure us that the rollers show signs of wear on the ball race tracks. As now we are not controlled by the Adamant Co. and since we concur with your general views, except the one on oil tempering, we agree that the following modifications can be made to the heat treatment for the material supplied by Adamant :-
