SS.{S. Smith} PETROL SUPPLY - AUTOVAC.

With reference to the proposed reserve contained in the autovac tank, we send herewith N. sch. 2828/9. shewing suggestions for the reserve device.

N. sch. 2828. is Mr. Royce's needle valve proposal operated by a toggling lever. We do not know the best height for the main standpipe, and suggest that Derby should experimentally determine it. We have intentionally made the needle valve rather small so that the driver will be compelled to go slowly when on reserve.

We have increased the holes in the cork faced tap from .218 to .250 as recently requested by the Exp.Dept.

On N. sch. 2829. we suggest an alternative in which the reserve/is all contained in the cork faced tap, as this appears to us to be simpler and possibly less liable to be overlooked after use.

We believe that you obtain the cork faced taps from outside so we have not shewn any details other than just the drilling.

EA.
