Speaking generally, I am very pleased with the specimen windings. I think there will be little difficulty in getting these to give satisfaction. There is, however, one little point in the model for the dynamo which could be modified, and that is, the inside end of the coil should come out between the coils going to the bottom and underneath the winding. It would also appear necessary that we fitted some form of hub, say, an aluminium flange inside the ends to support the winding. This flange would be covered with insulating tape, and possibly mica. I also notice that the motor has the end connections slightly differently arranged to the generator, the generator wires coming straight out whereas the motor wires are spirally outside the band. It is highly desirable that all the flexibility possible should be obtained between the commutator and the armature, that the end winding shall be true and solid, and that the commutators will be tight on the shaft so that this latter shall not move about relative to the armature core. You will remember that the commutator fits a taper portion of the shaft, which should facilitate our getting it on tightly. We are not proposing to return the models unless you want them.
