There is a concern here calling itself Alumino-Thermic and Metal Sprayers Ltd., who have a method of spraying metal on to other metal after sand blasting in such a way as to protect same from rust, corrosion etc.

I find that they spray with zinc, tin, lead, bronze, brass, copper and aluminium, and it occurs to me that you might like to take this matter up with Derby in connection with my recent letter complaining about unsightly silencer snouts. These can be sand blasted and sprayed with any of the above mentioned metals as also can the whole of the exhaust system of the car from engine to snout if considered desirable. Another use which suggests itself to me is the spraying of the interior of battery boxes where these are made of metal; in this case, of course, lead would be sprayed.

A use that is being made of this out here on a very large scale is the sand blasting and spraying of wheel rims on their outer peripheries and this is done with zinc entirely avoiding all risk of rust which is, as you know, apt to collect here and ruin the inner tubes of the tyres.

This process is also in use here for the building up of worn parts such as ball race journals or housings, and has met with a great measure of success.
