To B.J. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} C.c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} H.S. CWB. PN.{Mr Northey} EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Y8770 R4/M10.6.26. PHANTOM CRITICISMS - X.3993. I am sorry to hear some of the Sales Dept. are disappointed that they cannot get their particular points put right quickly enough. I would like to ask them whether we are spending money enough in the Exp. Dept. and whether they think the Technical Dept. are working hard enough, because we cannot attend to all the 101 complaints which arise except in their order of importance. For instance we presume that H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} would prefer that we improved the suspension and steering before we worried about the size of the petrol gauge face, and that it is more important to (1) modify the filler to avoid the risk of spilling petrol with the latest more rapid pumps (2) improve the outgoing filters, and (3) form a reserve compartment, than re-designing the petrol gauge face, which was originally made for the 20HP., and will have attention when more important items are finished. We naturally would like to do all these things quickly and at once, but it is beyond our capacity to do so. We were rather distressed at the threat to hold up the improvements to the petrol tank we have made until we could make all that is thought desirable. This was not only unkind, but unwise, and I should not agree to it. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
