8 1153 c. LA.{L. A. Archer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}o/MH.{M. Huckerby} 1st. February, 1939. Messrs. The Hoffmann Manufacturing Co. Ltd., Chelmsford, ESSEX. For the attention of Mr. C.H.Smith. Dear Sirs, We are anxious to run one of our gear boxes with bearings having the least possible slack that you would consider satisfactory on a production basis. The bearings in this box consist of one of each of the following:- OW.789 LS.12 MS.12 OW.788 GW.789 GW.1881 Will you, therefore, please send us for test, one each of these with the minimum endwise slack, and also let us know what the slack will amount to. We should be glad if you could let us have these as soon as possible as we wish to discover how much transmission "clonking" could be affected by alterations to the bearing. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
