Rolls-Royce Ltd. Derby 1245 Gardiner Please give information required to To Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux} Sr/Gol/AD/17.11.37. IMW{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux} Re: Chassis 22-G-V We would refer you to our memo Sr/Go5/AD/24.9.36., concerning the steering column brought into France under Temporary Admission for above car. We informed GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} in our memo that an "Acquit à Caution" had been established for this part, it being most important that same should be cleared within a fixed delay and that, moreover, to avoid all complications, it would be advisable to re-export the part through the Boulogne agents of Messrs Hernu, Peron, France, Ltd, who had carried out the formalities in the first place. The document was handed over to GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}, and we understand from Behnan that the matter received your attention when above car left France. However, some time ago, we were asked by the Customs, through the intermediary of Messrs Hernu, Peron, France, Ltd., to supply information concerning the car, the owner, date of departure, etc We thought that the details given would clear the matter but, this morning, we received a further demand for explanations, the Customs stating that they found no trace of clearing of the "Acquit à Caution" N° 454 and that, according to their records, this document had never been handed over. We should, therefore, be pleased, if you would kindly confirm the date the above car passed at Boulogne, and also that the "Acquit à Caution" was duly cleared through Messrs Hernu, Peron, France, Ltd. The Customs also wish to know the date of establishment and cancellation of "Carnet de Passage" N° 62893 under which the car was in France, and which served to obtain the Temporary Admission of the steering column. "En résumé" please give us all possible information concerning this matter, which we shall endeavour to put straight, and thus avoid paying duty and, perhaps, a fine. [Handwritten Notes] Car left France 18-12-36. Column fitted 28/10/36 Carnet discharged 3/5/37. Acquit d'Admission Temporaire sent to S.W.G.L. Sr/Go. [Signature] Sr/Gol/AD/25.9.36 | ||
