Dear Mr Nichols,

Speedometers.

Thank you for your letter of the 12th instant.

We note what you say about the trip failures on speedometer No Z.183. You will appreciate that we do not get a good deal of satisfaction from the explanations you give as to the cause of the failures.

Certainly we could not justify the price we pay for the A.T. speedometer if we take any notice of the trip failures on speedometers fitted on experimental cars; to obviate the present state of affairs, which appears to be that we are running out of up-to-date speedometers on our experimental cars, we are sending you a number of new speedometers out of the Stores, and asking you to adjust the gear ratio to suit various experimental cars. When you return these, we will test them.

Flexible Shafting.

The situation with regard to flexible drives is much the same as for the instruments themselves; noisy drives are a perpetual source of adverse comment. Are you now in a position to let us have some heavy drives to run with the new speedometers?

Visit of your Chief Engineer.

We think it would be well to defer the visit of Mr B.B.Moss until we have the new speedometers running, and also have completed an investigation we are at present making regarding a new instrument panel.

Yours sincerely,
