25HP. SYNCHRO MESH HELICAL 3rd. GEARBOX.

Gearbox noises with helical gears always in mesh will
never be quite all we would like, but should be far better
than the straight teeth.

It has occurred to me that we may find some definite
difference between the 25HP. and P. 2. of the same type,
because the 1st. motion shaft on P.2. has a bearing each side
of the helical spur driving gear.

I am very pleased to hear that the new and simpler
reverse is satisfactory now that we have suitable oil holes.
This seems definitely to avoid the working out trouble, which
is a bad fault. I am not sure if a test has been made of
the direct drive with extra clearance in the nose bearing, or
more central bearing, to avoid this working out.
