R.{Sir Henry Royce} R.{Sir Henry Royce} PETROL PUMP.

Attached are tests that have been carried out reducing the capacity of the pipe line and filter. In practice we may not be able to go quite as far as this with the filter. However, the results show that we ought to be able to reduce the time to draw fuel from the reserve, or from a dry pipe line on a cold morning, by about 30% without obstructing the top speed delivery appreciably.

On top of this, the compressions ratio alteration will also assist as we have already shewn.

If we could be sure that the starter motor would turn the engine at 100 R.P.M. we should say that the pump with the proposed modification would be satisfactory for production.

However, since the 3.25 C/R engine at present is only turned at about 90 R.P.M. under moderate conditions of cold, we think that a slightly larger pump diapram is desirable to give us a margin for partially obstructed filters, run down batteries etc.

We have made a number of tests on the auxiliary tank suggested in E.1/TP.28.5.32., but the results so far do not seem to justify the additional complications entailed.
