Phantom III Position.

Referring to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}1/T.17.12.35 we give herewith a list of the worst outstanding points on the Phantom III chassis with brief remarks as to the present position. The list has been compiled by the Experimental and Design Department jointly.

(1) Carburetter and Induction System.

Experimental work is proceeding with all urgency. Design work is completed with the exception of two small items, viz. petrol feed pipe to carburetter and drain pipes from carburetter. It is quite possible that designs may require considerable modification after experimental tests. Vapour lock has also to be reproduced.

(2) Piston Development.

MX.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} is proceeding with the development, and the position at the moment is encouraging.

(3) Gearbox. - Ease of change.

The fact that Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} has a car in use on which the gear change is good shows that there is no fundamental difficulty to overcome. It appears to be a question of bedding of synchromesh cones and several schemes have been instructed which should shortly be available for test and from which we can reasonably expect good results.

(4) Steering.

Experimental and design Departments have met together to discuss the problems involved, and as a result experiments are instructed which it is hoped will
