X.3431 - RE BOTTOM HALF CRANKCHAMBER JOINTS. X.3908 We are experiencing considerable trouble in maintaining a satisfactory oil tight joint, On investigation, we find that the failure appears to take place chiefly when the engine is running at high speeds. This is the present tendency with low geared axles. It is found that the bolts tend to become loose, and although a good fitting joint, oil leaks through the spaces between the fixing bolts. We have spent a considerable time in doing the best we can with this joint to make it oil retaining, both by improving the fitting and also by trying various jointing materials, but have not been able to achieve success. I now put forward for your consideration the addition of further lugs and bolts at these joints, as I feel that this is now the only alternative. The trouble we are experiencing is chiefly midway between the front and rear supporting arms. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} [Watermark: ORIGINAL 1804 MADE AT CROXLEY] | ||
