To. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Mr. Sidy. (crossed out) Mr. Gill. (crossed out) CHATEAUROUX 300a 32-EX. PHANTOM III. Re. Second Thermometer at Front of "A" Side head. We noted on the road that the new thermometer at the front of "A" side head showed 74°c when the standard thermometer at the rear of "B" side head showed 80°c. After prolonged slow running, the rear thermometer showed 100°c and the front thermometer 97°c. A test was made by placing both thermometers bulbs in water in an electric heater together with two glass thermometers and a Negretti & Zambra. The following figures were obtained:- Glass Thermometers 99° 98° 80° Negretti & Zambra 102° 100° 81° Front "A" Side Thermo. 100° 97° 78° Rear "B" Side Thermo. Off Scale 100° 84° This indicates that the difference shown on the road is due to incorrect instruments and that no actual difference exists. This was confirmed by the tests at Brooklands on 29.6.37 already reported. RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW.{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux} Frank Waller | ||
