X8060 To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to BJ. " HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} " BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} E1/M23.4.26. LIGHTER PHANTOM VALVE TAPPET HOLES -X.8050 We have sent a drawing to Derby -LeC 2236, which we attach a blue print herewith, shewing a valve push rod of larger diameter for the lighter Phantom engine. As mentioned in a previous memo, we wish to use duralumin for this part to maintain correct clearance. LeC.2236. shews a rod two and a half times as strong as the duralumin rod of standard dimensions which failed. To accomodate the larger diameter we have used parallel guides tubes through the cylinder head instead of waisted ones, and asked the Works, to scrape the casting away with a pialted tool where it impedes the passage of the tube. The gas passages between the guide tubes remains unaltered and the diameter of these tubes where socketed into the cylinder is no larger than formerly. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
